They are five year old "Gopherus agassizii" AKA Mojave Desert Tortoise. We have four adults (J. Golden, Wilford, Tommy and Mary Ellen) two juveniles (Gordon and Marjorie) and a 2 year old hatching (Franklin) and four six month old hatchings (Fiona, Fritz, Fluffy & Finn);
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't let them hear you call them a "turtle." It upsets them. They are fine and majestic tortoises and are proud of the fact that they can live to be 150 years old. Turtles live in or near the water. Tortoises get one or two drinks a rear and can even go for two or three years without a drink.
Gordon and Marjorie told me to say, "It is very nice to meet you...tell the young lady HI Mother." Marjorie says, "Hello my dear."

Speaking of ... what happens to them when you die and they still have over 100 years to live?
ReplyDeletePet tortoises are sometimes referred to as "Gifts to your great-grandchildren."
